Going through the last issue of the last New York Times Style Magazine earlier this week I was pleasantly surprised to discover that some Kisan items made onto its pages. Now I must say that I have no proof that they were actually purchased here, BUT it would be too much of a coincidence if they were not.

Check out Gucci Westman's amazing downtown home. The bunny lamp in the image above is by Heico and available in white at Kisan. It looks like the bulb might have been replaced with a red one. $89.

Spring collections are arriving almost every day and this week we decided to take a closer look at the incredible pieces from the spring/summer 2012 collections by Vanessa Bruno and Athe Vanessa Bruno. Thorunn picked her faves and she tried them on during our impromptu photo shoot.

I must note a couple of other things too. The scarves in the photos are by Faliero Sarti - they are the most beautiful scarves you can possibly buy. The fabric is always so soft and delicate, and it makes these scarves very special - they drape beautifully and are always such a pleasure to wear. We have a selection of the spring scarves at the store and they are going fast!

And of course I have to mention the new Servane Gaxotte jewelry collection. She never seizes to amaze with her incredible and whimsical designs. But more on her collection in a later post.

Yes they are here! The new Pre-Fall 2011 collections just started to arrive and today I would like to dedicate the post to these pieces by Sonia by Sonia Rykiel.

The 'Buffalo' reporter bag and wallet have great buckle details and are made of beautifully grained leather. But I must say my absolute favorite here is the silk saffron color dress. This dress can be worn loose or belted AND saffron yellow was on all the runways for fall. This means that you can easily transition this piece from summer onto fall and winter.

If yellow is not your thing or you simply don't look right in this shade of sunshine, this dress also comes in versatile dark grey, super easy to wear and an instant classic for your wardrobe.

Start with a simple yet not so basic cotton blue dress, add flats, a tote, some pretty jewelry, a scarf and a hat, and voila, you are all ready to go.

It's an easy outfit, but what makes it so special is the details. Sonia by Sonia Rykiel dress has subtle and modern eyelet embroidery detail. Jamin Puech leather tote has amazing texture and the handles are attached with stunning fishhook-like hardware. Pedro Garcia flats are made of super soft patent leather and have special rubber dots on the leather soles so you won't slip. Jielde Lamps are finally back at Kisan. They just arrived from France last week. They come in three different configurations: desk lamp, small floor lamp and large floor lamp. And you should just see the colors, from neutrals like chrome and black to bright green, hot pink and orange.

Feeling Nautical

I don't know about you, but I am so excited that spring is officially here. I always associate warmer weather with being near the water, wether just taking a stroll be the beach, soaking up some sun or feeling the breeze on a sailboat.

This convertible trench from Toga Pulla (from Japan) will be great both in spring and summer. It turns into a duster and/or a shrug, and can even be worn as a dress. I love how multifunctional it is.

Speaking of multifunctional, the Jamin Puech bag, with sailboats non the less, has a removable strap, so you can wear it short or keep your hands free and turn it into a cross body bag. It is available in two colors (see above).

The shoes in the image are from a French brand called Rivieras and they are made in Spain. They are available in many different colors for both men and women. What I absolutely love about them (besides the fact that they look great) is the fact that the insoles are removable and washable.

Lastly the tank top from Demylee has the most amazing shade of red. It's sort of this perfect summer red with a tint of orange in it. This tank is rather long (will cover your bum) and can be worn with leggings.

Stripes and Dots

I love stripes, and I love dots. I think those patterns are so much fun, yet easily wearable by anyone. The two tops are by Demylee, a local New York based brand, and I am particularly partial to their summer weight cashmere cardigans. They are just perfect for the warmer weather, and I just can't resist the cheerful stripes!

The pouch is by one of my favorite brands Jamin Puech. You can't see it in the photo, but it is cotton, with seed bead embroidery and leather trim. It feels amazing in your hands and will be a feast to your eyes at the same time.

Lastly the socks by Antipast from Japan: I think they are simply amazing, and they will completely change the look of your shoes.

Playing Favorites

We have so many brands at Kisan, and each season the designers behind these brands surprise us with yet more and more incredible pieces. I truly admire their creativity and commitment to their work. So I got to thinking about who would be my personal favorite...

When it comes to clothing... drumroll... my favorite designer is Tsumori Chisato. This Japanese brand never stops to amaze me with how the clothing is cut, often very unusual, but very flattering. In addition they create their own prints for fabrics instead of using already existing stock. It's an incredible amount of work, but in the end we, the consumers, benefit immensely. We get not just cloths, but pieces of art.

My favorite accessory brand is... another drumroll... Jamin Puech. The French design duo makes the coolest bags, wallets, keychains and jewelry. This brand is most certainly not for a minimalist. They often mix materials (leather, fabric, embroidery), enjoy working with color and simply make handbags fun.

Crazy for Color

I am obsessed with bright colors lately. Maybe it's the long snowy winter, maybe it's the tulips starting to peek out on my patio, but I am so ready to brighten up my wardrobe! The Jerome Dreyfuss bag is the new Lucien by the way. The fringe is removable, so fear not: if the fashion gods say that fringe is positively out for the next season, just snap it off and store it 'till the next comeback. The crazy shoes are by the Icelandic label Kron by KRONKRON. They are absolutely out of this world and are 100% representative of the designers (whom I got to meet not so long ago when they unveiled their new collection at Kisan).

A certain someone from Kisan is currently celebrating her birthday on a Caribbean Island. So while she is living it up in a tropical paradise, I am dreaming of my own seaside getaway. Here's my packing list!

First of all I must say that the blue dress makes me think of the vibrant colors of Mexico. The embroidery is so beautiful and is also reminiscent of the traditional Mexican patterns. Just imagine having lunch at a seaside restaurant with a view of waves glistening in the sun and rolling onto the warm sand...

Pop of color for Spring

These beauties arrived last week and I just had to share them with you. Talk about a burst of color. The first dress is by Tsumori Chisato, of beautiful silk with a cat appliqué $696. The suede NICK backpack is from Jerome Dreyfuss $620, and the silk orange and pink flower print dress is by Vanessa Bruno $430.

Antipast has the most amazing socks out there. The designs are the most creative, with unparalleled attention to detail and commitment to quality. I have a few pairs of their socks and I always get compliments. The socks are perfect to wear with sandals in summer too. They are such a statement. Below is a very small selection of hosiery that just arrived at Kisan. I was itching to open the box once I knew it was the precious cargo from Japan. And now it is finally out on the store.

What are you wearing for that New Year’s Party next week? Australian designer Megan Park always has the prettiest dresses. The taupe dress $850 is styled with a Sonia Rykiel ruffle scarf $310 and a Servane Gaxotte deer necklace $375. The stunning blue dress $665 is worn with layered necklaces by Megan Park ($125 & $160) and Atsuyo et Akiko ($149).

Tsumori Chisato is always creative and fun. The checkered print cotton dress is very playful and so easy to wear $360: leggings and warm top in winter, on its own in summer. Polka dot cashmere scarves are luxuriously soft (I just love the mint color) $270, and the gold paw print wallet will make you smile every time you reach for it $295.

What always amazes me is how much thought is given to little details in all Tsumori Chisato pieces. The grey terry cotton dress $260 has such an interesting cut and a gold starburst detail at the neckline, while the black and white stripe top $150 has little golden paw prints, irregular stripes and fabric appliqué at the top. You must see them in person, they are amazing!

Mary Ellen Mark's Limited Edition Prints at Kisan

We have a really exciting holiday party coming up at KISAN. Not only will we serve up cocktails and give away amazing raffle prizes, we will also have a selection of limited edition prints by the world-renown New York Mary Ellen Mark available for our customers. The images were taken in 1964 in the beginning of Mark’s career while following the Volunteers of America Santa parade. These atmospherics photographs depict beautiful moments in the lives of yesterdays Santas. The photographer will be present.

I think it is such a great opportunity to meet Mary Ellen Mark and to see her amazing gelatin silver prints in person, especially in the today’s world ruled by inkjets.

To spread the Holiday cheer and goodwill we will also be donating 10% of all purchases made on December 14^th to Volunteers of America, the organization that runs the Santa Parade. Volunteers of America have been helping people in need for over one hundred years.

Servane Gaxotte New Collection Party was a blast! I finally got a chance to see all the beautiful pieces she created for the Special Holiday Collection for our store. First of all, there are so many different animals: cats, mice, deer, birds, squirrels, and dogs! There are also a few pieces that are girls too. So hard to choose a favorite!

Notably, Mary Ellen Mark stopped by the party. She also happened to win one of the raffle prizes too – a butterfly necklace. By the way, in case you were wondering, Servane was wearing a Tsumori Chisato dress.

With Thanksgiving Turkey Dinners and Black Friday behind, we are looking forward to the beginning of the winter holiday season. We are dreaming about sparkling lights, holiday store windows and warm dinners with friends and family.
